Dear ladies and gentleman:

Here is an update on myself and The Poet and the Flea:

  • I had an amazing time at SPX (Small Press Expo) a few weeks ago. You can find out more here!
  • Director Mary Lachapelle and I have submitted our proposal for short film Death Is No Bad Friend to the first grant on our list. We’re excited to apply to more grants and hopefully hear some good news in the near future!
  • GUEST SPEAKER: I am ecstatic to announce I will be a guest speaker for Wendall K. Harrington’s “Visual Storytelling” course at Yale University School of Drama this December. To my understanding, her students study William Blake and create an animated project using The Songs of Innocence and of Experience. I can’t wait to share my knowledge of Blake and my approach to storytelling through words and images!

Visual Storytelling: This is a lecture, film, and…

Dear ladies and gentleman:

Here is a much overdue update on myself and The Poet and the Flea:

  • SPX (Small Press Expo) is only a few days away! I’m more or less ready — I just have to pack all my zines, prints, etc. into a suitcase. And I am incredibly excited for the two-day event. :)
  • I have been making a lot of progress on short film Death Is No Bad Friend with director Mary Lachapelle. For the last few months, we’ve been working on a proposal for a number of grants. And we are almost, almost, almost ready to send out our first one.
  • I’ve been continuing to work on The First Reich (thefirstreich.wordpress.com) about the Jewish-Austrian psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich. I’ve penciled in pages 11 through 25, but haven’t had a chance to ink them in yet. I had a really wonderful meeting with writer Shannon…

Tuesday, March 4th: Went with my friend Tina to Welcome to Night Vale live in Washington, D. C. So much fun!

Tina and me at Welcome to Night Vale!

Saturday, March 8th: Had a nice time exhibiting at the first-ever Smudge Comics Arts Expo.

Thursday, March 13th: The launch of our new Death Is No Bad Friend crowdfunding campaign: fundrazr.com/campaigns/diZs9?psid=8a92a66f127f49cfb6392f16277ad433.

Saturday, March 15th: Today’s Met Opera simulcast of Massenet’s Werther was beyond words! I read Goethe’s novel a few years back and found it very interesting. But the opera really brings the tragedy to a whole new level. And Jonas Kaufmann’s performance was absolutely captivating. :)

Tuesday, March 18th: Worked on new pages of graphic novel The First Reich.

Wednesday, March 19th: Wonderful Skype call with Jacqueline, DP of Death Is No Bad Friend. We bounced some really interesting ideas back and forth. And I look forward to further developing these ideas with her and director Mary.

Thursday, March 20th: I’ve been watching opera on YouTube and I just have to say that Verdi’s Don Carlos is one of the strangest operas I’ve encountered. Don Carlos falls in love with the woman who then becomes his stepmother, the Spanish Inquisition is running around causing trouble, and at the end Don Carlos is dragged down to hell by his dead grandpa to end his suffering… What!?

Friday, March 21st: My favorite Muppets Most Wanted moments (spoiler alert):

  • The Swedish Chef playing chess with death à la The Seventh Seal.
  • Miss Piggy’s Vivienne Westwood wedding dress.
  • Ricky Gervais in a lemur costume.

Saturday, March 22nd: Worked on new pages of graphic novel The First Reich.

Sunday, March 23rd: I had an amazing time watching The Grand Budapest Hotel! Wes Anderson is brilliant and Ralph Fiennes is one of my all-time favorite actors. And the whole ensemble was amazing — Tilda Swinton, Adrien Brody, Jeff Goldblum, etc. I can’t wait to see it again! :D

Dear ladies and gentleman:

Here is a much overdue update on myself and The Poet and the Flea:

  • Early January, I had emergency gallbladder surgery. This is a very strange coincidence, since Mr. Blake suffered from excruciating gallbladder pain towards the end of his life! I’m still recovering, but feeling much better than before. :)
  • In the meantime, I’ve been very busy trying to crowdfund a short film Death Is No Bad Friend about Robert Louis Stevenson. Please take a look at our Indiegogo campaign here: indiegogo.com/projects/death-is-no-bad-friend/x/1089930.
  • Once I feel a bit better, I’d like to keep working on The First Reich (thefirstreich.wordpress.com) about the Jewish-Austrian psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich — specifically pages 11 through 25.
  • On February 4th, the young adult nonfiction title Scared Stiff: Everything You Need to Know About 50 Famous Phobias by Sara Latta (Zest Books) featuring over 50 of my illustrations was released. On…
