This past Saturday, I attended the opening reception for an exhibit entitled “On Paper” at Gallerie Citi in Burlingame, California. The show features five artists who work in paper-based mixed media. I was there to support one of the artists — my mother Irene Zweig — who creates captivating pieces through deconstruction and reassemblage.
If anyone happens to be in the San Francisco Bay Area and would like to attend, the exhibit will be open through June 15th.

Firstly, I just wanted to thank all the awesome bloggers who have given me very helpful advice for this trip!
***
Note: This post is really just for me to try to jot down and organize all the information/recommendations/advice I’ve received about London so far. AND MORE ADVICE IS MORE THAN WELCOMED!
***
Here, I’ve narrowed down the Blake historical sites to only the ones I want to see most:
- St. James’s Church: (10) Where Blake was baptized. The font still survives.
- Westminster Abbey: (10) Where Blake practiced drawing. Monument to Blake in the Abbey’s Poet’s Corner. Will probably end up here on a bus tour!
- Royal Academy, New Somerset House: (9) Where Blake studied and occasionally exhibited his work. Original building.
- 13 Hercules Buildings: (7) Where Blake produced the Songs of Experience. House demolished in 1918.
- 17 South Moulton Street: (10) Will be here on Tuesday!
- St. Mary’s, Battersea: (10) Where Blake married Kate. Original building.
- Bunhill Fields: (9) Where Blake is buried.

In February, I made arrangements with my friend Tina and about 3-4 of her friends to go in together on a table at SPX (Small Press Expo) in Maryland. And, on March 30th, after a series of techinical difficulties, I learned that we got the table!!
That means I’ll be exhibiting at SPX later this year on September 14th and 15th selling copies of my upcoming zines, plush toys, and whatnots with some wonderful company. Can’t wait!
*If anyone has helpful advice about SPX, I would be eager to hear it. I’m trying to figure out how many zine copies, plush toys, and whatnots I’ll need to bring with me or ship by mail. What to do? ╰( ´◔ ω ◔ `)╯

Disclaimer: I do not own this image!!
In the meantime, I’m compiling a list of zine fests/expos I hope to attend and possibly exhibit at this year.

As you may know, I attended APE last year — so I think I have a pretty good idea what it will be like. I have absolutely no idea about my chances of nabbing a half-table, but I did send in a form that apparently means they’ll inform me when tables go on sale. We’ll see what happens!!

I attended this one too last year. It’s a pretty small space packed with rows and rows of tables. Might be fun!

David’s Questions
1. What encouraged you to start blogging (honestly)?
I wanted to share my work with the world.
2. Heart broken or never touched. Would you rather risk it all for love or not at all?
Neither. I’m not a romantic. But I have a wonderful boyfriend!
3. What is your favourite medium to write, paint, draw or generally create with?
Difficult question. If I could only have one implement, I would choose a black felt-tip pen.
4. I love to day dream (but I’m also very proactive ). Are you a dreamer?
A dreamer, yes. But also a “radiant pessimist” — I hope for the best, but expect the worst.
5. Skipping this question.
6. If you were an artist, living or deceased, who would you be?
Myself. Not that I’m “the best” artist — I just have no desire to be anyone else.
7. In answering 6, do you think you have the qualities to do that person justice?
I hope I do myself justice.
8. What is your favourite hot drink?
Chai.
9. What quality do you admire most in people?
Determination and ambition without being self-absorbed.
10. Did you believe I was a bear (ggrr bear)?
Frankly, no.
11. I love imperfection, to me it is true beauty. What do you love?
Creativity and culture.
***
Annamita’s Questions
1. Hello, do you know me? ( Biffy Clyro – Living is a problem because everything dies) I’m not sure — do I?
2. How did you get that way? (Lana Del Rey - Millions Dollars Man) What way? What?
3. Do you believe ? (The cardigans – Do you believe?) Not so much.
4. Are we safer or in danger? ( Otep – Confrontation) I’m guessing “in danger.”
5. Can anybody help me make it better? (BFMV – Tears don’t fall) Err…
6. Do you have an opinion? (Garbage – Special) Yes.
7. What was said about this man? ( Chevelle – sma, the man can be anyone you want) What man? Who?
8. Someone who’ll protect you? (Muse – Deadstar) Myself.
9. Remember me when you clinch your movie deal ? (Placebo – Special Needs) If I must.
10. How do we made it? (Black Infinity – Rise of the blackstars) I think I misread something.
11. Do you have any questions? (Annamita Virosa) No, I don’t want to know.

A while ago, I stumbled across A Space Boy Dream, a wonderfully clever and charming webcomic by Moira Zahra and Mark Scicluna.
Somehow, my first experience of A Space Boy Dream was somewhere in the middle of the comic and out of order. But I immediately perceived Moira and Mark’s refreshingly satirical portrayal of hipsters, struggling artists, and the average young person. Not only can I relate to the plight of the angsty and self-concious protagonist Vincent, but I also marvel in the amazingly expressive character designs and unique design aesthetic of this comic.
I didn’t realize until later that the artists live in and portray the Mediterranean island of Malta!! This fact went completely over my head because A Space Boy Dream‘s hipsters are identical to the ones I’ve encountered in Manhattan, San Francisco, and across the U.S. in general. I guess some components of society and subculture are far more universal than I originally imagined.
The following images belong to Moira Zahra and Mark Scicluna.

My dear friend Tina is just launching her own creative adventure, and I wanted to share her work!
Assassin Bound: assassinbound.tumblr.com
Summary: “A ridiculous crossover fan adventure between Ubisoft’s popular Assassin’s Creed video game series and Andrew Hussie’s extremely popular Homestuck webcomic adventure.”
Truthfully, I know very little about
Assassin’s Creed or
Homestuck, but so far
Assassin Bound is quite entertaining.

My friend has wonderfully snarky humor and it’s fun to participate by offering suggestions as to what should happen next. Whether a diehard
Assassin’s Creed and/or
Homestuck fan or not,
Assassin Bound is worth a look!

Yesterday, I posted the 20th page of The Poet and the Flea… What!? Wow!!
The Flea premiered online November 28th, 2012 and has already received more than 10,000 views.
I have been honored to received a number of wonderful reviews thus far, such as those by Sarah Goode and Hannah Meiklejohn, as well as an incredible invitation to speak to The Blake Society in London this coming May.
Self-publishing The Flea online has been an incredible experience so far and I thank everyone for their enthusiasm and support!
Best wishes,
G. E.

Ladies & Gentlemen:
On behalf of my humble keeper Miss G. E. Gallas — I, Mr. Edgar Lawrence Fluffernutter™, would like to graciously thank you for your generous patronage.
Miss Gallas is flabbergasted that our supporters have doubled in a matter of two or three months, and is unwavering in her determination to sustain the quality of this enterprise.
Although I have little knowledge of these newfangled contraptions, it is to my understanding that there are additional entities (thepoetandtheflea.wordpress.com) where one might extend one’s support, and I would be much obliged if you were to kindly do so.
Your modest nocturnal mammal,
E. L. Fluffernutter™

At the beginning of March, the chair of the Blake Society Tim Heath confirmed my invitation to speak to the society as well as asked that I put together a title, description, and bio for this year’s programme of events.
To give me a better idea of what to write, Tim offered to send me a copy of last year’s brochure. And, late last week, this beautiful printed booklet arrived (see photos below)!
I can’t wait to see how this year’s programme will turn out!
P.S. I only just realized that Philip Pullman is the president of the Blake Society. What!? I mean, it makes complete and total sense, but I’m still trying to wrap my brain around that fact.
