1. Meeting with Gabe! Showed him some new work for Elias & the City of Cats. 
2. Worked on The First Reich.
3. Worked on Elias & the City of Cats.
4. Spoke with my high school friend Tina L. about SPX (Small Press Expo) in Maryland. We (Tina, some of her friends, and I) are going to try to get a table there this September! Also, Tina may share a table with me for this year’s APE!

Wednesday, February 20th

• Zest Books Internship, Day #7: Super busy with some editing/fact-checking work! Also, sat in on a Teen Advisory Board meeting, which was interesting. Going in again tomorrow instead of Friday to sit in on a meeting and meet a tight deadline!

Thursday, February 21st

1. Sent Hannah some follow-up answers.
   
2. Zest Books Internship, Day #8: Came in Thursday instead of Friday. Managed to complete a big project before the deadline. Finally met Dan in person (had only talked on phone before). Going to help Hallie with a photoshop project on Wednesday. Busy, busy, busy!

4. First skype meeting with film director Josh! He’s interested in my short script The Man Who Never Smiled. Soon, he’ll be scouting locations and creating a shot list. Wants me to write detailed notes about the script and eventually create a simple storyboard. Set filming date for July. Extremely excited!!!

1. Passover trip — had Passover and stayed overnight at cousin’s house outside of Sacramento. Would be perfect location for filming Death Is No Bad Friend.
2. Received e-mail from local production company. Interview scheduled for April 11th!

• Zest Books Internship, Day #16: Worked on image research and fact checking! Fact checking is definitely one of my strong suits — I have so much random knowledge stuffed away in my brain that I can immediately sense when something is off.

1. Interview with potential job unsuccessful, but that’s fine by me. Looking forward to next interview on the 11th!
2. Entered two screenplays (one full-length, one short) into Table Read My Screenplay contest. Wish me luck!

1. Uploaded portfolio to this blog.
2. Requested invite from DreamUp.com (not at all sure how this will turn out…).
3. Did some online research about zines, printers, etc.

1. Working on submission to Fantagraphics.
2. Continuing to work on some upcoming blog posts and project ideas.

Friday, October 26th

1. Meeting with Gabe went very well as always. Gabe took the time to cut and paste his entire story, Elias & The City of Cats, into a children’s book format to give me a better idea of what I need to illustrate. From this prototype, I’ll start working on a rough sketch storyboard!
2. Applied to the Big Bear Lake International Film Festival Screenwriters Competition. Information updated on “Applications” post, here.
3. Completed submissions package for Fantagraphics. Now, I just have to put in the mail!
4. Scanned character preliminary design for Elias and Ignis of Elias & The City of Cats. With this design, I was just experimenting with some Commedia dell’Arte (Pierrot & Harlequin) costumes which most likely won’t appear in the final children’s book. But Gabe seems to really like this image and wants to make some t-shirts. Any interest?

1. Last night and today, working on rough sketch storyboard for Elias & The City of Cats.
2. Did some experimenting with animation app on iPad.

Sunday, October 28th

1. Worked on figuring out the crazy California ballot (so many props!) so that I can vote early tomorrow.
2. Had a wonderful time with Wes today! Ate dinner at The Corner Store — both had these amazing “Grasshoppers” (crème de menthe, absinthe, chocolate, and vanilla ice cream). Can’t wait to see him again on Halloween! （○゜ε＾○）

Monday, October 29th

1. I voted today!!
2. Dropped submissions package for Fantagraphics in the mail!
3. Applied for a part-time writing job. Wish me luck!

Tuesday, October 30th

1.  Working on rough sketch storyboard for Elias & The City of Cats.
2. Discovered that my short screenplay Death Is No Bad Friend made it to the Kaos Films British Short Screenplay Competition 2nd Round Qualifiers (announced earlier this month). I have no idea how many rounds this competition is, but does that mean that judge Sir Kenneth Branagh has read my screenplay?  (｡♥‿♥｡)
3. Responded to a film director on Craigslist looking for a short screenplay, and got an almost immediate response of interest. Hoping this will be successful!
4. Sent an e-mail to Scout Books enquiring about collaboration and their Good Ink’s literary line.

Wednesday, October 31st

1. Completed rough sketch storyboard for Elias & The City of Cats.
2. Happy Halloween!!!  I had a great time at Wes’s house’s pretty dorky party, even though I don’t think anyone recognized my Daria costume (even though Shannon Woodward and Katy Perry dressed as Daria and Jane without my prior knowledge). Plus, Wes gave me a belated birthday present — meet Charles, the British alpaca!!

Summaries

Here is some information on my works…!

Full-length Screenplays

1. No Longer Human: A story of obsession. Inspired by the deaths of the artists Jeremy Blake and Theresa Duncan.
2. Valentine: A retelling of Alexandre Dumas’s The Count of Monte Cristo, focused on the story of Maximilian Morrel and Valentine de Villefort.
3. The Man Who Never Smiled: A contemporary film noir.
4. Houdini & Conan Doyle: An exploration of the friendship, falling-out, and rivalry between the escape artist Harry Houdini and the creator of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Short Screenplays

1. Robots Are a Girl’s Best Friend is the story of a troubled middle-aged man who attends a Halloween party dressed as Marilyn Monroe. A life-changing encounter with an “inanimate object” helps him come to terms with his identity.
2. Death Is No Bad Friend: Based on the life and works of Robert Louis Stevenson. Robert Louis attempts to escape his guilty conscience through honeymooning on Mount Saint Helena. But his illness catches up, forcing him to face his demons.

Fiction

1. “Go Jump in the Lake”: The precursor to Who is Laurence Harvey? An imagining of Laurence Harvey’s experience on the set of The Manchurian Candidate (1962). During filming in Manhattan, Larry is required to jump into the frozen waters of the Lake in Central Park. With this feat looming over his head, he questions his ability to cope with the pressure.
2. “Robots Are a Girl’s Best Friend” (See above.)
3. “Bludgeoning The Walrus”: A ‘60s period piece about a movie set designer who is fed up with his lecherous, big-shot boss.
4. “Ulysses in Hell”: An account from the perspective of the hero Ulysses as he burns in Dante’s Inferno.
5. “Coin-operated Golem”: Inspired by “A Supermarket in California” by Allen Ginsberg.
6. “The Ink Drinker”: A dystopian story about a young girl who learns the truth about an outcast of society.
7. “The Scar Still Hurts” (In Progress)
8. “The Man with a Television for a Head” (In Progress)

Brief Update

Here is a brief update on my current creative projects and endeavors…!

1. Last week, completed 7 page script for Robots Are a Girl’s Best Friend. Have important meeting scheduled for this week. I suppose this is the beginning of pre-production? Very, very, very excited!
2. The Poet and the Flea: 26 pages of written script (1 page of script = 4-6 illustrated pages), and about 24 pages (1-5 completed, and 6-24 in progress) of illustrated work.

3. Introducing thepoetandtheflea.wordpress.com : I wasn’t very happy with how my images were showing up on the Wix site I created [sorry, Wix!], so I decided to post the graphic novel on a sister wordpress blog! I think the formatting will be a lot easier to navigate and a lot simpler to update. We’ll see how it goes!

4. On the other hand, working on completely revamping homepage [yay, Wix!]. Adding more information/summaries about my various projects.
5. Sunday, applied to Kaos Films’s 2012 British Short Screenplay Competition. Submitted 14 page screenplay entitled Death Is No Bad Friend, inspired by the life and works of Robert Louis Stevenson. I’m very excited about the judges (Kenneth Branagh might read by screenplay!) as well as the prize (“The winner… will have their screenplay produced by Kaos Films. It will be premiered at BAFTA…, entered into film festivals around the world before being screened in selected cinemas in the UK.”). Wish me luck! Information updated on “Applications” post, here.
