Today, met with Gabe and his friend, Masa — a film director. They asked me to collaborate with them on a screenplay called The Blanks. The concept is really interesting and I feel that I can use my expertise to really flesh out the characters and story. But I think I have to discuss everything further with Gabe and Masa to figure out exactly what they want.
Discussed children’s book further with Gabe. Scheduled next meeting for Friday, October 12th.
Watched the short film and read the short script that Gabe and Masa want me to collaborate on in order to expand it to feature length. Brainstorming ideas!
Reworked my résumé since it needed some updating.

Today, received “BlueCat Screenplay Competition Analysis” for my full-length screenplay The Golden Curator. Overall very positive feedback! “What a neat and twisted little tale you have here… Even with all the craziness on the page, it never sounded like a campy comedy; instead, it was like a drawing room farce with just enough menace to make the viewer worry about the fate of our hero.”
Saturday, September 22nd
Today, very successful meeting with Shannon. I feel like we’re definitely on the same page, and that my ideas for this project are flowing and coalescing. I can’t wait to start outlining the first pages!!

Meeting with J.R. Really think his web series has potential for universal humor and can be done on a shoestring budget. Now, we have to recruit some additional writers.
As suggested by Gabe, checked out Scary Cow, the indie film co-op. Thinking of attending an information session.
Correspondence with Shannon. As I continue with research, she’ll start putting together some blog content!

Continuing to read Jekyll and Hyde — it’s incredibly different from any adaptation I have come across. Fascinating!
Bought a JPLT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) N1 textbook from Kinokuniya. Started reviewing the material, and believe it was money well spent. Not sure if I’ll actually take the test, but would be a nice addition to my résumé. If I decide to apply to The JET Programme as a CIR (Coordinator for International Relations), would be very helpful!
JLPT N1 Textbook!!
Monday, September 3rd
Continuing work on The Flea…
Shannon sent me the entire draft of our graphic novel collaboration, The First Reich. In the process of reading and taking lots of notes. Project will require much period fashion/settings research, but is a welcome challenge!
Tuesday, September 4th
Today, I found out some exciting news. I hadn’t realized that anything was announced since I received no e-mail. But I checked the Kaos Films website, and lo and behold. My screenplay Death Is No Bad Friend is one of 292 qualifiers (semi-finalists) in the Kaos Films British Short Screenplay Competition 2012. (This means my script will most likely be read by judge Sir Kenneth Branagh!!) The finalists should be announced sometime around January. Awesome!
Continuing work on The Flea and The First Reich.
E-mail correspondence with potential director/producer for Robots Are a Girl’s Best Friend.
Finished reading The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I think it was a good experience. Next, thinking of reading The Island of Doctor Moreau by H. G. Wells.
By the way, I’ve just developed a new, little obsession with bats. Just look at their faces below!! (゜▽゜;) Perhaps I’ll eventually develop a comic or children’s book with a protagonist named “Fluffernutter the Bat”™?
Disclaimer: I do not own any of these bat photographs!!

Tuesday, August 7th
Today, had lunch with the lovely Tina C. She’s a really smart and wonderful lady. She gave me some helpful advice about The JET Programme (something I may do in the future) and the JLPT Japanese Language Proficiency Test (something I’ve been considering). We ended up speaking English with a bunch of random Japanese words thrown in (●´∀`●). I’m not sure if she’ll be staying in SF, but I hope we can become friends!
Lately, been trying to practice my Japanese language skills thanks to my new iPad! Downloaded the app “iBunkoHD” to read literature in the original Japanese (Akutagawa Ryūnosuke, Natsume Sōseki, Dazai Osamu, etc.). Downloaded another app “Japanese Advanced Phrases” to practice newspaper terms, 四字熟語 (yojijukugo: a word consisting of four kanji), idioms, etc.

Spoke again with potential director/producer. He has lots of interesting ideas for Robots Are a Girl’s Best Friend. Will speak again soon.

In the midst of a horrible cold… (✖╭╮✖)
Friday, July 13th

On Craigslist, have responded to a few posts about writing and creative projects. We’ll see how it goes…
Sunday, July 15th
After a nerve-wracking wait, Who is Laurence Harvey? did not make it into the quarter finals of The 2012 PAGE International Screenwriting Awards. But I’m still happy that the screenplay made it into the second round (the top 25%). Now I have 6-8 more contests/competitions to hear back from in the coming months. Next up, The Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting Competition Quarterfinal Round and the Film Independent Screenwriters Lab…
Looking into The Alternative Press Expo (APE) in San Francisco, October 13-14. I think it’s too late to get a table, but I’d like to attend, schmooze, get some more information about the publishers I’m interested in, and possibly promote The Poet and the Flea a bit.
Tuesday, July 17th
Responded to a Craigslist post about someone writing a graphic novel who’s looking for an artist/illustrator. Had some e-mail correspondence with her. Planning to meet on Tuesday (24th). Looking forward to it!

Attended The Pixel-Flick TV Actor/Filmmaker Alliance’s first meeting. Thought it went very well! The producer/director/CEO of Pixel Flick Entertainment, Brian Stephens, sounds like he has a lot of experience and knows what he’s talking about. He’s organizing this alliance to facilitate filmmakers in the Bay Area and showcase their work. Seems like a wonderful opportunity!
Monday, July 23rd
Took care of some important e-mails today.
Tuesday, July 24th
My meeting with the graphic novel author Shannon Brady went really well. I think her concept is really intriguing and she’s very passionate about the topic. I think this is going to be a successful collaboration!

These past few weeks have been quite the roller coaster…! (⊙□ ⊙;)ノ
Sunday, June 30th
Through Meetup.com, discovered The Pixel-Flick TV Actor/Filmmaker Alliance (Pixel Flick Entertainment). It seems like this production company is interested in producing short films and web series. Will attend the first meeting on Saturday, July 21st.
On Stage32.com, received a very nice personal message from Ben Cahan (the creator of Final Draft) inviting me to join his website Talentville.com. I created an account there, but I’m not ready to post my work yet (perhaps after I hear from all the contests I applied to?).

A special announcement about The Poet and the Flea coming soon!
Bit by bit, working on my third full-length screenplay called TheModern Prometheus. The process has involved a lot of historical research about San Francisco. Every screenplay is a learning process!
I’m thinking about compiling a list of comic book-related (more on the small press side?) conventions for future reference. I would love to attend some local ones (Bay Area, California, etc.?) in the near future. And perhaps eventually fly out to other conventions. Any suggestions?
Starting Tuesday, been in touch with a fellow screenwriter/filmmaker Jay Dial through Twitter. Going to help him with a trouble spot in his screenplay.
Robots Are a Girl’s Best Friend: Been in touch with my sister Sydney Gallas ( sydneygallas.com ) about doing the costumes for Robots! She’s been very busy working on the costumes for “Shakespeare in the Park” in NYC ( link ), but she’s going to dedicate time to really take a look at my script. Very exciting!!
The Poet and the Flea: 34 pages of written script (1 page of script = 4-6 illustrated pages), and about 30 pages (1-8 completed, and 9-30 in progress) of illustrated work.Slowly but surely working on the-poet-and-the-flea.tumblr.com. Speaking of Tumblr, just wanted to thank all 108 of my followers… Thank you very much!!
